How to Make a Moon

Here's a moon.  Well, here's our moon.  Lovingly referred to as "Moon."

How to Make a Moon.  This is the title of one of the piece I'll be in for DanceWorks.  Julie (the choreographer) told us that she collects titles.  I like that idea.  Why not publish a book of titles to let people use as writing prompts?  Why not make a collection of titles even if it's for my own use.  So here are a few titles I like for poems or vignettes or even novels.

The Trick to Taming Lions
Saving Fish
Falling Up
Daughter of Eve
Chaos
Blonde: The New Minority
Daisy Blue

Here's a baby giraffe:

And here's a poem.  My poem.  One from a few months ago.  Cynical?  Maybe.  Sad and sympathetic.  Yes.  Angry.  Yes.  All of it.

Glamour Girl

You have fish eyes.  Round and dead.
She'll have such spark,
they say as they give you fringe and feathers
to accentuate your ribs
paint sex on your lips
carve your face to delicate points
dry your eyes with rough cloth.
Alone, you'll whisper to the dark: I can't be saved.
And so you stand for nothing.

I can see you as a little girl -
the charm bracelet of your broken heart,
the pieces dangling from your wrist,
drops subtle hints:  I am dying.
Even in your youth:  I am dying.

To die and live today between the pages
with hair pulled tight to fling you across the room -
They'll carve their names on your bones
and throw you to the beasts.
Oh how they'll love you.

Here are some coffee beans.  Cheers.

Merp

I had the last of the opera performances and DanceWorks with our guest choreographer all weekend (which feels like it was so long ago...) Fri: Dance Midsummer Opera  Sat: Dance (6 hours) Nap Opera  Sun: Dance Family Opera Strike.  Sunday we had only two hours of dance then an hour and a half free to be with my family then the LAST SHOW and then strike. Meh.  I was happy to see my Mommy.  So here are the pictures I promised:

the infamous unibrow

the prostitute and the serial killer

Midsummer has begun.

Learning about all sorts of crazy things like how to say words.

Also learned that there will be a pre-show in which I get dressed on stage and do makeup and such.  Reed estimated 40 MINUTES ONSTAGE BEFORE MY FIRST LINE. WHAT?! Yeah. That should be interesting.  Also learned that I get to koala all over Lysander during the fight before he dumps me and holds me underwater for several lines... so much crazy fun.  The costuming has also been quite fun.  Here's a sneak peak of Puck from the underwater photo shoot this morning.  The shoot was for the poster.  Hopefully we'll get the design soon.  It'll be so cool.

I made his headband with the feathers yesterday!

Speaking of photo shoots, I've been doing this fun thing called dancing which is both exhausting and invigorating.  Anyway, we had a photo shoot for the poster design for our DanceWorks performance and apparently some of mine were really cool.  We also took shots that we could purchase for portfolios.  I just hope we get to see them soon!  Another reason we had the shoot was for publicity for the dance program.  Apparently they're going to select a photo or two to use in brochures and in ads for the dance department and for UWEC as a whole.  AND.  The photographer sent three photos via email to both Julie and Reed and one of my pictures was the one on top.  Pick me!  Pick me!

this shot is actually pulled from the UWEC facebook page after they sent
a photographer to our ballet class when a guest flamenco dancer
came to teach us.  I think it's pretty neat.  I look all dancer-y.
